Spring is here so spring clean you skincare routine...

Spring is in the air! The days are getting longer and the inclement weather has (hopefully) passed.

So, it’s time to spring clean your skincare routine with these top tips to achieve a healthy, bright and nourished complexion.

1. Face Yoga is perfect to do every day as part of your skincare routine to help keep your jawbone and saggy chin at bay!  Check out the website to keep your skin supple and toned. No expensive surgery required. Keep it natural!

2. Ensure your pillowcases and sheets are changed weekly to ensure your skin is not prone to bacteria from skin that has shed during the night. Silk, 100% cotton or bamboo are best as they won’t drag the skin and are natural fibres.

3.  Spring clean your makeup bag.

Discard all those that may be out of date as the preservatives used in them may have broken down, air may have got into the products if lids left off of and packaging is breached.  Bacteria will be present and it is not good to transfer this to your skin

4.  Remember SPF protection. After discarding old products, decide which products work for you and all multi-seasonal and provide protection and hydration all year and what products you need to invest in for the next season or two. Moving into Spring & Summer, an SPF 15+ day moisturiser is a must.

5. Invest in a magnifing mirror. They aren’t expensive but give you the opportunity to take a good look at your skin in natural daylight and highlight blemishes, rashes, skin irritation, spots and acne or rosacea flare ups.

6. Gentle exfoliation. All good skincare routines start with a good cleanser & exfoliator but one that is gentle on the skin and doesn’t contain harsh chemicals including alcohol that can irritate and dry out the skin. Award winning Borealis Natural Organic Palmarosa Exfoliating Face Polish will gently slough off dead skin cells, tone and clean skin; gently. Skin brightening organic palmarosa oil and gentle jojoba beads achieve a clean, toned skin tone.  If you are using it for the first time, perform a skin patch test and in the first week use once to give your skin time to adjust to new ingredients and allergens. We’re confident you will not only love the fragrance of ylang ylang & palmarosa but love the creamy texture of the product.

7.  Tone: after cleansing, the perfect toner is Borealis Natural Organic Rose Water Toner & Spritzer. It is perfect for toning and refreshing freshly cleansed skin gently. Rose is perfect for hydrating and gentle on skin prone to blemishes, broken capillaries common around the nose, chin and cheek area. Smells divine!

8. Moisturise, moisturise….choose a product that suits your skin type and is without harsh parabens or chemicals. See previous blog on preservatives for more information. Borealis Natural Skincare offers a range of moisturisers to suit specific skin types and the carrier and pure essential oils have been chosen to benefit that particular skin type, for example Jasmine for Dry Skin and Rosehip  & Kiwi for Oily Combination skin. So you can rest assured the ‘active’ ingredients are there for a reason: to benefit your skin.

9. Face Oils: As we age the skin loses elasticity and the condition of your skin will depend on a number of factors including whether you smoke, sun bathe, use tanning salons, poor diet, alcohol, stress & sleep patterns. Some people find their skin needs additional protection and moisturisation. Face oils are ideal for either blending with your moisturiser or ideal for overnight nourishment & protection. Only a few drops are required gently massaged in to the face and neck area.

You may need to use them a few times before your face gets used to the oils and you will really start to see the benefits of plumper, healthier looking skin.  Borealis Natural Frankincense & Myrrh is ideal for mature skin, or skin that has experienced life! Rose & Geranium  is suitable for most skin types. The smell of the oils may seem quite pungent at first, this is because they contain rosehip oil which is not deodorised.

10. Décolletage – shed your polo neck jumpers, winter has gone and show case your fabulous décolletage! We have the perfect product to help plump and nourish fine skin around the area that is prone to creasing and lines. Borealis Natural Décolletage Elixir is a unique product formulated to help you show off your best assets….

A good sleeping pattern is essential to skin health. Lack of sleep shows up in your skin tone and condition. Try and get at least seven hours continuous sleep to improve skin appearance.

Eat healthy, well balanced, seasonal food. You can have healthy snacks on the run and always have fruit, nuts and mini crackers to keep your blood sugar levels stable and avoid the peaks and troughs. Keep hydrated with water or a mix of water and fruit juice. Or, if possible, juice your own.

Happy New Year & A Healthy & Peaceful 2014 ..............

   HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL............

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” -- Eleanor Roosevelt

Happy New Year to our blog readers and customers of Borealis Natural Skincare. We hope the coming year brings you all health and happiness.

What better way to kick start the new year with a review of your skincare regime.

The excess of alcohol, fatty and sugary foods over the Christmas & New Year will unfortunately result, as we all know, in expanding waistbands and invariably blotchy, dry, and dehydrated skin.

So, make three resolutions regarding your skincare regime to ensure your skin becomes healthy, glowing and protected during the coming months.

Apart from eating lots of raw and steamed fruit and vegetables, nuts, lean protein and drinking at least a litre of water a day, ensure you get plenty fresh air, sleep and enjoy spending time with people who inspire you and make you feel happy, excited and secure.

1. Declutter your makeup bag!

Examine your makeup bag and check all the use by dates in there. You will be surprised how many products we buy, use once, or forget we purchased them and leave them to fester unopened / missing lids, tops that gather bacteria and become unpleasant to use and may cause skin eruptions & outbreaks. Throw away or give away unopened make-up, foundations, moisturisers, lip sticks and especially mascara that can cause eye infections if out of date or have been shared amongst friends.

2. Discard any products that don’t agree with you.

Your skin is sensitive and with the festive excesses this may be exacerbated. Bring in a new regime if required using paraben free, natural skincare products. Expensive doesn’t always equate with good so read up on ingredients and always test before you use them. Make sure you know what skin type you have and buy accordingly based on budget, ethos, availability and results.

3. Cleanse.  Exfoliate Weekly.  Moisturise. Keep it simple.

Large companies are very clever at creating demand for products that you don’t need. Remember most skins were only ever treated with water and soap. Now there is a product for preparing your skin for cleansing, degreasing, plumping, softening, feeding, hydrating….you name it, you can find a product line to fit the bill so pare it down. Less is definitely more and your pocket will thank you for it as will your skin that will no longer be bombarded with different ingredients, preservatives, chemicals and synthetics.  Moisturise with one of our Daily Defence Moisturisers depending on skin type from Jasmine, Mandarin & Frankincense, Rosehip & Kiwi and Wild Rose. Or, in these winter months top up overnight with a face oil for extra protection against central heating, wind and fluctuating temperatures. Go on, it’s New Year; treat yourself and your skin.
